Having Fun While Learning: Plus-Plus GO! and Plus-Plus Glitter

I always tell my children that their “job” is to play. Children need play to develop their skills and foster their well-being. This is why I love educational games and toys. We have been fans of Plus-Plus for years and when I heard Plus-Plus was releasing a couple of new series, I was so eager to try them. Over the years we have built flowers, castles, crowns, all sort of animals with Plus-Plus. When I heard what the new series are about, I thought: here we are, next level.

About Plus-Plus

Plus-Plus are building blocks that roughly look like puzzle pieces. They look, as the name suggests, like two “+” signs piled up.

All blocks have the same shape and the possibilities are endless. There are two aspects setting Plus-Plus apart from similar toys:

  • the pieces do not combine exclusively in a flat way: you can build 3-dimensional objects and even curved surfaces. If you don’t believe me, here’s a Google search of Plus Plus designs – OMG the Chinese dragon!;
  • given that there is only one shape, the child is encouraged to make a greater effort to achieve a design. At the same time, a younger child can start by building 2D figures and build confidence for more complex designs later.

One shape only also means that all your Plus-Plus sets can be combined together, instead of having 3000 different pieces with weird shapes that fit only in one place. Building with Plus-Plus is a great opportunity to stimulate logic, fine motor skills, imagination, and spend time together as a family.

New series: Plus-Plus GO!

The first new series we got to try was Plus-Plus GO!. Useless to say, my 5 year old son went nuts when we unboxed it. With the Plus-Plus GO! series, you get to create designs with wheels.

My husband and my son went on to build a firetruck. It took them 3 evening sessions. Fabrizio did not rush, he allowed E to take the lead on the instruction sequence, helped him count how many pieces and what colours he needed for each passage. It was a small project they worked on together. Our son was so proud when he completed it.

Now the problem is to convince him to destroy it and put it back into the box! I guess we will leave it on display until the next project.

Another novelty: Plus-Plus Glitter

My daughter loves cars, but she loves making jewellery more. This is what your child can do with a Plus-Plus Glitter set. In the box, we found strings and instructions to make rings, bracelets, necklaces, and a jewellery holder. Like the name suggest, there were glittery and golden Plus-Plus pieces. She loved it and insisted to wear her creations to school the following day.

Unfortunate combination of clothes, but I hope you can see the pink-golden heart she made.

Few more things on Plus-Plus

When I write review posts, I always like to do some research on the company behind. You know, to avoid that I recommend you to buy the products from satan or something. When I looked Plus-Plus up, I found out the company is based in Denmark, which is a good guarantee for material safety (thank you EU). Furthermore, they make sustainability a core value of their business. The Plus-Plus headquarters and production factory are exclusively powered by renewable electrical energy (wind power). Moreover, no plastic goes to waste: all production waste is scraped together to produce new pieces.

I have also noticed how they take care of representing diversity in their ads and promotional materials. They clearly make a point of promoting their toys to kids of both genders – in several places they use gender-neutral language and features girls playing with all kinds of sets. In addition, they depict children of all races in their promotional materials. Mama likes.

Finally, by looking them up I found out they have plenty of suggestions and activity ideas on their website. For instance, learning letters and numbers by building them with Plus-Plus. There is a similar activity idea to learn flags of the world, and another one suggesting to build and play tic-tac-toe. I have never been so excited about a review post, true story.

Plus-Plus has recently released Plus-Plus BIG for the younger building aficionados (1 to 6 years of age). Plus-Plus BIG pieces are 2.5x bigger, for safe and equally fun hours of playing for the little ones.

As I mentioned, this was not my first rodeo. We have been Plus-Plus fans well before we tried these new series. I love how these new sets expand on the realm of possibilities, but whatever set you will choose, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. These toys enable your family to unlock imagination and spend hours of smart play time together.

Plus-Plus sent me the toys described in this review. Opinions are mine and sincere. You can read my values here.
